Current Obsession- Marlene Dietrich & Jean Louis

Right now I'm having a Marlene moment. Specifically during her "let' tour the world singing my signature tunes" period.

Marlene Dietrich, Las Vegas by John Engstead

Marlene Dietrich graced stages from Sweden to Las Vegas ensconced top to tails in beads, rhinestones and not much else!  All this finery was provided by the genius talents of Hollywood Legend Maker, Jean Louis.

Jean Louis will forever be remembered for designing the infamous nude gown for Marilyn Monroe when she sang Happy Birthday at 'a friend's' birthday party.

The nude embellished gown became a signature Marlene Dietrich. Bob Mackie is also known for his nude embellished looks and gladly points to his former boss as his source of inspiration.

Just look at those photos, I mean come on! That is the epitome of 'Legend' with a capital "L."
One day I would like to make one of these bad boys. All I need a girl and a reason...

Who should that girl be?

Madonna + Mackie = Oscars

Today is Hollywood's self proclaimed 'biggest day!'  Wow... I hate to be Mrs. Hollywood, their anniversary didn't even make the cut.

Madonna performed "Sooner or Later" from Dick Tracy at the Oscars in 1991.  This was the infamous year that she arrived at the award show on the arm of one, Mr. Michael Jackson.  She wore a bead and sequin encrusted white gown with a luxurious fox fur stole that only Bob Mackie can do correctly.

The performance was haunting and beautiful and the Mackie gown added a certain authenticity to the obvious homage to Marilyn Monroe.

Happy Oscar Day!!

Happy Birthday Marilyn!

Today is the birthday of THE sex symbol of the 20th century.  Marilyn  Monroe was amazing and will never be replaced.  Check out this beautiful print of her by Bob Mackie.  Only 275 were made.  The piece was auctioned off at Christie's in 2005 and went for $777.  10% of the proceeds went to Elton John's AIDS Foundation.

Mr. Mackie is such a talented and generous man.

A little Bit of Mackie 2/22/11

Madison Square Garden, May 19th, 1962.  Marilyn Monroe sang "Happy Birthday Mr. President" to John F. Kennedy.  She was wearing a nude colored scandal designed by Jean Luis.  Bob Mackie illustrated the design.

I need to be working for this man!
